Sir Mick Jagger & Keith Richards
Dartford Borough Council Bronze Statues of Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards
Dartford Borough Council appointed FrancisKnight as the public art consultants for a very special commission unveiled to the public in Summer 2023. The installation of The Glimmer Twins – two bronze statues of Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, on One Bell Corner, designed and created by award-winning sculptor Amy Goodman S.E.A.
Dartford town centre has undergone a significant upgrade to the public realm as part of a multi-million-pound regeneration to create an attractive and welcoming town centre for residents and visitors. At this time of regeneration, it was fitting to pay tribute to a proud and strong association with the role that both Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richards played on the worldwide stage that began when the two met at Dartford Railway Station and first explored their shared interest in music.
FrancisKnight commissioned Amy Goodman to create this important artwork, to recognise and celebrate the global achievements of the two former residents and sons of Dartford. The commission was funded by Bellway London’s Copperhouse Green development on Lowfield Street.
Amy Goodman S.E.A, is a Sculptor & Portrait Artist based at Project Workshops in Hampshire, twice a winner of the prestigious B.S.A.T Best Sculpture Award, she has gained a reputation as a highly accomplished equestrian and figurative sculptor. Amy’s work is increasingly seen in the Public Realm with works including; a bronze bust of the indomitable Florence Nightingale, as well as the ‘Gurkha Memorial’ unveiled in Aldershot. This second statue highlights the special relationship between the Gurkhas and the British for over 200 years. It depicts first Gurkha Victoria Cross recipient, Kulbir Thapa rescuing a British Tommy from the Leicestershire regiment, in 1915.
Other key public works include the jump ready ‘Airborne Soldier’, the emotive WW1 ‘Romsey War Horse & Trooper’, and the three ‘Arborfield Horses’ (unveiled 2022), among others. Amy was also commissioned to sculpt the late Sir Stirling Moss for the British Racing Drivers Club, with his bronze unveiled at the British Grand Prix in July 2022.
Amy was thrilled to sculpt Sir Mick Jagger and Keith Richard’s for Dartford town and said: “This has been a really unexpected dream commission. To get the opportunity to sculpt these icons whose music I absolutely love has been overwhelming, mind blowing and emotional.”
The work was installed in August 2023 at One Bell Corner, at the heart of the Dartford Town Centre. The figures have become the focal point in the town, encouraging visitors to interact, sit, socialise, and enjoy the surroundings.
