Public Art: A Gateway Drug to Culture

Season 3, Episode 4 In this of episode Talking Public Art, we welcome Victoria Jones, founder and director of T Projects, a public art consultancy operating across the UK and Australia.

Published date: 17 July 2025

Victoria began her career as a sculptor and fine artist before moving into public art commissioning.

Today, she leads T Projects with a strong focus on delivering meaningful, embedded public art that resonates with people and place. Her work spans a wide range of scales, from intimate interventions to complex infrastructure projects, always underpinned by a commitment to quality and integrity.

Victoria’s path into public art wasn’t a straight one. She talks openly about her early days as a curator, and how a desire to engage with audiences beyond traditional galleries led her to work with institutions like the Whitechapel Gallery and eventually into curating public art and a permanent move to Australia.

She reflects on the start of T Projects and about the challenges of curating public art in complex contexts where budgets, engineering constraints, and multiple stakeholders are always part of the conversation.

With over 20 years as Public Art Consultants, this is an area FrancisKnight has experience of managing too. We work with developers and local authorities across the UK to integrate bold, high-quality artworks that enrich public spaces, enhance resident experience, and foster a sense of place.

We share our approaches on how we balance the creative needs and support of artists with the practical demands of large-scale developments.

As Victoria says, “There’s a real need for clearer routes into public art commissioning. It’s a very opaque field and mentoring can be the key to unlocking it.”

We compare challenging behaviours, client relationships and the myriad of roles that public art consultants hold.

Victoria’s episode is a generous and insightful look behind the scenes of public art today. It’s grounded in lived experience and is a must-listen for anyone working in the public art sector.
